Dr Jyoti Shah is a Macmillan Consultant Urological Surgeon at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. Before 2023 she was working at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Jyoti has a specialist interest in prostate cancer, innovative techniques and teaching.
She began her pioneering clinics with Burton Albion Football Club in providing prostate cancer screening in a community-friendly environment to encourage more men to engage with their health. As of 2023 her clinic has screened more than 3000 men for prostate cancer.
Jyoti has published extensively with 63 peer-reviewed publications in International journals, 9 Book chapters, and has authored five books. She was formerly the Commissioning Editor for The Annals and Bulletin of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) and was on the training faculty of the RCS. Prior to this, she held the Associate Editor role at the RCS. She is the former Editor in Chief of Medical Woman, where she produced the Centenary’s issue on top medical women throughout British history.
Jyoti’s work with the RCS and Medical Woman on leadership has allowed her to interview prominent individuals, including fashion icon Amanda Wakeley OBE; Rugby Union Coach and World Cup Winner Sir Clive Woodward; International best selling author and physician Tess Gerritsen; CEO of General Medical Council Niall Dickson; Former Commander in Chief of the Royal Navy, Admiral Sir Trevor Soar and leadership specialist and Vijaya Nath, from the Leadership Foundation and formerly of the King’s Fund.
Jyoti graduated from Charing Cross Hospital and completed her postgraduate urological training in London before working as a Locum Urological Surgeon at Kingston Hospital and St. George’s Hospital. She was appointed a substantive consultant in 2008 at Burton Hospital. Ms Shah has undertaken a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education and is a GMC-accredited Educational Supervisor. She is an educational supervisor to an FY1 at Burton Hospital. She is a Postgraduate tutor for simulation and an examiner for the final MBBS at Leicester Medical School. She is an assessor for the RCS and travels around the country as a college representative at urology consultant interviews.
