FightingProstateCancer.co.uk began in 2016 with a ground‑breaking partnership at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium, taking prostate cancer screening out of hospitals and into a familiar, stigma‑reducing setting.

Led by Dr Jyoti Shah MBE and Macmillan Urology ANP Sister Sarah Minns, the initiative offered one‑stop PSA testing, clinical assessment and rapid referral, which encouraged men—especially those reluctant to attend GP or hospital clinics—to engage with their health. The work was with the blessing of Burton Hospital where the team was based.

The Burton campaign quickly showed its impact: thousands were screened, early cancers were detected, and there was strong local buy-in. It won Burton Albion Community Trust’s Awareness Campaign of the Year (2016) and contributed to Burton Albion’s recognition in Parliament for outstanding community work.

The model then scaled beyond football, running clinics at Chesterfield FC, the Afro-Caribbean Centre, places of worship, Rotary and Freemasons’ lodges, major employers such as Rolls-Royce, and with public services including Nottingham Police.
