The Fighting Prostate Cancer campaign, in partnership with the Bob Willis Fund’s ‘Blue for Bob Day’, came together to raise awareness and funds for medical research with the support of Sky Sports.

The Blue for Bob Day at Edgbaston was organised by the Bob Willis Fund, established to honour the memory of former England cricket legend Bob Willis, who died of prostate cancer in 2019 at age 70.

The campaign’s partnership with the Fund has enabled her to reach high-profile audiences, including sporting celebrities and political figures, spreading crucial awareness about a disease that affects one in eight men in the UK.

During the England vs West Indies One-Day International at Edgbaston, Dr Shah operated an information stand filled with literature and copies of her book “Fighting Prostate Cancer”. Among the notable figures who received her materials was former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who had recently undergone his prostate health check. Sir John Major, another former Prime Minister and Bob Willis Fund ambassador, engaged in discussions with Dr Shah regarding the importance of prostate cancer screening.

The Edgbaston collaboration exemplifies an innovative methodology, where she provided PSA blood tests to former England Test cricketers and broadcasters Mark Butcher and Jonathan Agnew during live television and radio coverage. This high-profile visibility helps to normalise prostate cancer discussions among men who might typically avoid such conversations.
