Dr Jyoti Shah MBE spoke about prostate cancer at a community event in Leicester, bringing an important health conversation into a welcoming social setting and working with grassroots communities.
Organised by the Hum Sath Sewa Leicester Team, the Indian Afternoon Tea took place at Thurmaston Community Center on Saturday 10 October. The event combined Indian treats and company with a shared purpose: raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer and prostate research. Our special thanks go to Kishorbhai Mistry and his team for organising the event. Their campaign raised over a £1000 for charity. The group is proactive in raising thousands of pounds for charitable causes, and we would like to express our deep gratitude and wish them well with their endeavors.
Jyoti, a Macmillan Consultant Urological Surgeon at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, attended as a guest speaker. Her presentation brought clinical expertise into the community, placing prostate health at the heart of an afternoon centered on togetherness and charitable support.
The event was advertised in aid of Prostate Cancer Research, while also supporting Prostate Cancer UK and PROSTaid, which helps people affected by prostate cancer in Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire. Leicester food business Mithaas was named as the food sponsor.
By pairing a familiar social occasion with a discussion about cancer, the organisers created an opportunity to bring health awareness to a community audience.
The afternoon reflected the value of collaboration between community groups, healthcare professionals and local businesses, united by a commitment to supporting those affected by prostate cancer and advancing research.
